OVERVIEW
Clif Bar & Company is an American brand that produces energy foods and drinks. CLIF Coffee Collection energy bars are inspired by coffeehouse favorites and crafted with sustainably sourced organic coffee beans from Colombia.
CHALLENGE
Coffee is a way of life for many and cafes are cornerstones of many communities. Unlike other CLIF BAR products that tend to fit into a single category like energy bar or everyday snack, the Coffee Collection was a product that uniquely fit both. K8C and the CLIF Bar digital team were asked to build a design system that would reach a food conscious on-the-go consumer while avoiding the pitfall of being too exclusive to coffee lovers.

From the early stages of product development, K8C worked closely with Mackenzie Mathis from Axes Agency and the CLIF Bar team to idea and build the Coffee Collection design world. Taking inspiration from coffee culture, camping, and the target audience’s on-the-go lifestyle, the resulting design system honors the tradition of coffee and cafes but also shows that there’s a new way to caffeinate.

A NEW WAY TO
GET YOUR COFFEE
GOING DEEPER
To further cement the product story, the team created a series of animated and lifestyle videos along with a photo and video footage library that highlight the main product features as well as place the Coffee Collection into the lives of busy city commuters. The team used soft light and subdued coffee-inspired colors to create a chill yet upbeat morning vibe throughout the entire design system and along with the typography lockup, everything about the Coffee Collection is designed to remind you of your favorite local coffee shop.
